Case File 03

Never myopic at 10. Xiaotian's story.

A real follow-up record, shared with the family's permission. "Xiaotian" is a pseudonym. This is one child's record, not a promise — individual results vary.

Xiaotian started at age 5½ — before anything was wrong. His first record showed +1.25D of hyperopia reserve in both eyes: healthy, but at an age when reserve starts draining fast. His family began gentle prevention: low-power red light under professional monitoring, daily outdoor time, and lutein. Four and a half years later, at age 10, he still holds +0.50D in both eyes. He has never been myopic.

The curve

This curve looks different from the others — and that is the point. The line rises gently: a child's eyes are supposed to grow. Prevention does not freeze growth; it keeps growth inside the normal range so the reserve drains slowly. Xiaotian spent +0.75D over four and a half years. Many children spend that much in one.

The protocol — prevention, not treatment

S2 · Red light, low power* Daily outdoor time S6 · Lutein

No glasses, no optical correction — there was nothing to correct. The strategy was low-power, low-burden, and sustainable: twice a day, three minutes each time, plus the bike rides his dad turned into their daily routine.

*Red-light devices for myopia are not FDA-cleared in the United States, and preventive use should always be guided and monitored by a professional.

"I'm not protecting his eyes — I'm just riding bikes with him."

— Xiaotian's dad, from Chapter 6 of No More Myopia Panic
Era note. Xiaotian's record comes from the 6S 2.0 era. By today's 6S 3.0 standard, his plan would also include the full foundation — lighting (S1) and near-to-far habits (S4). Prevention that starts this early has the best odds of all.

What this case teaches

1

The cheapest myopia is the one that never happens

Every case file before this one started after a problem appeared. Xiaotian started before. Prevention takes minutes a day; control takes years — compare his daily routine with Case 02's six years of lens care.

2

Watch the reserve, not the eye chart

Xiaotian has always read the eye chart perfectly — and his family still measured. The eye chart tells you today; the reserve tells you next year. His +0.50D at age 10 means the account still has savings.

3

Rising axial length is not automatically failure

From 22.72 to 23.50mm looks alarming until you check the rate: 0.17mm/year at ages 5–10 is ordinary physiological growth, and his refraction stayed safely hyperopic throughout. Judge by rate and reserve together — never by the raw number alone.

How much reserve does your child have left?

One measurement tells you. Record it, and the curve starts telling you the rate — free.
